David Burstin – Assistant Treasurer
David Burstin has had a lifelong connection with Secular Yiddishkayt which started in the Yiddish shtetl of Carlton, where he was born. He has always regarded himself as a Carlton ethnic.
David is both a graduate of the I.L. Peretz Yiddish School (the forerunner to the Sholem Aleichem College) and a 200 game player of the Jewish Football Club, AJAX.
When their family came along, David together with his wife Doris became involved with the running of the Yiddish School movement in Melbourne, Doris as a pedagogue and David as a Director. David has been President of both the I.L.Peretz School and the Sholem Aleichem College.
In 2011 David again showed his commitment to furthering Yiddish by sitting and passing VCE Yiddish and together with his brother Ben published a book titled, Yiddish Melbourne Observed.
David has a Commerce Degree and many years experience in the management of his family’s textile mill. Knowing that he had retired from full-time employment, David was approached to become Treasurer of the Kadimah Board in 2014. It has been his great pleasure to oversee the modernization and overhaul of its financial systems and processes and to contribute to the smooth running of the Kadimah.
