Joe Tigel – Co-Vice-President

Joe is Vice-President of the Kadimah with nearly 30 continuous years on the Board of Directors. Joe was practically born on the Kadimah stage, with his father Shia, a stalwart of Yiddish theatre at Kadimah. With this DNA, and early years at Sholem Aleichem Sunday School it was a blur of musical performances, recitals, theatre and song – in Yiddish.

In High School, while studying distractions, Joe had regular roles in school productions honing a craft for musical theatre, as well as challenging comedic and dramatic roles across a number of classic and contemporary works.

Becoming a mainstay of the Australian Yiddish theatre scene, roles included, Peter in The Diary of Anne Frank, the nephew in Neil Simon’s Sunshine Boys, King Ahashverosh in the Megille and a Yiddish actor’s rite of passage – playing Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof.

Joe has over fifty years involvement at the Kadimah including productions both on stage and behind it, recitals, concerts variety nights, musical and comedy acts and a regular as MC at “In One Voice”.

He remains available for weddings, Bar/Bat Mitzvah’s and Bris.
