Joe Tigel – Chair

Joe Tigel has spent his lifetime as part of the Kadimah.

Accepting the honour of becoming President of the Kadimah also reflects another chapter in contributing having participated as a volunteer, performer, MC and even the Kadimah caretaker way back in his student days.

Joe was practically born on the Kadimah stage, with his father Shia, a stalwart of Yiddish theatre (David Herman Theatre) at Kadimah. Joe also has a history of contribution in various roles within Melbourne’s Jewish organisations including Kadimah, Sholem Aleichem College, March of the Living, Saltpillar and SKIF youth movement.

In his professional life, Joe is a co-founder of ASX listed Spirit Telecom (ST1) and retains a consulting role in the Telecommunications industry. Previous roles in Human Resources and banking and finance contribute to the skills and the activities of the Kadimah and its Board.

As part of the Kadimah relationship, Joe has been involved on or behind the stage, being a speaker and advocate for ‘Mame Loshen’ (Yiddish language) building bridges with supporters and philanthropists who value the role of Kadimah as a unique cultural centre in Jewish Australia.

Joe is also a Co-Chair of the Jewish Arts Quarter (JAQ) a significant project and visionary initiative of Kadimah, The Jewish Museum of Australia and Sholem Aleichem College.
