Old and New Dybbuks in Cinema

Come and join our own Professor Rivke Margolis,of Monash University, taking a fascinating dive into dybbuks on screen. She will trace the dybbuk’s journey from Jewish folklore, theatre and Classic Yiddish cinema to modern films and TV shows, examining its evolving portrayal in genres ranging from horror to comedy. The talk is in Yiddish. However, as the Powerpoint slides will be in English, the talk is highly suitable for Yiddish learners. It is a tie-in with the JIFF screening of four new Yiddish horror shorts on Wednesday, November 13 at 8pm.
