We managed to deliver one performance – Opening Night! – last Wednesday in a stunningly transformed Kadimah space before having to turn the lights out again for Lockdown 6.0. But the response from those lucky enough to see it has been overwhelming. We’re pleased to share some photos by theatre photographer Jeff Busby and audience feedback, and look forward to welcoming you back to the Kadimah for the rest of the season, as soon as we can.
“I feel so lucky to have seen this show. The music, singing and performance were just beautiful and truly unique. I have never seen anything quite like it. It seemed to contain the past and the future at once. I felt as if I was transported to another time and place. Every piece was so different but bound together by these beautiful poems that seemed as if they were meant to be with this music. Galit was mesmerising to watch and captured every changing feeling of the poems from anguish to joy and then anticipation to loss. Yiddish electronica totally works and I am waiting for lock down to end so I can go and see it all over again!!!”
“Lights and clever staging completely transform the Kadimah, but the real highlight is witnessing Galit Klas’ extraordinary range – from opera-like emotional highs to disco and electro-club diva. What a joy to witness such an incredible performance… Can’t wait for you to remount it in a club so we can all dance and scream!”
“The Kadimah Yiddish Theatre’s production of Durkh a Modne Gloz is the most original work I have seen for many years. Superbly directed by Gary Abrahams, Galit Klas’ energy-filled performance brought to life the Yiddish poems and perfectly complemented Josh Abrahams’ music. This innovative piece of theatre needs to be seen by Yiddish- and non-Yiddish–speaking audiences alike.”
“Every moment breathtaking. A must-see.”
