American Jewish cooking maven Joan Nathan, will headline the inaugural Melbourne Jewish Food Festival at Kadimah on Sunday December 11.

Joan Nathan is to Jewish food what Julia Child is to French cuisine. A bestselling cookbook author, TV cooking show host and regular contributor to media such as The New York Times, the Today show, Good Morning America and The Martha Stewart Show, she has received the highest industry honours and is renowned for bringing Jewish food from across centuries and continents to delicious life.

The festival program also features much-loved Melbourne foodies Alice Zaslavsky and Rita Erlich, and Sydney sensations the Monday Morning Cooking Club.

The full-day program includes:

• 9:00 – 10:00am  Jewish Home Bakers’ competition, with judging by Joan Nathan, Rita Erlich and Natanya Eskin (Monday Morning Cooking Club). Prize: $500 baking hamper by Chef’s Hat
• 10:15 – 11:15am  Joan Nathan and Alice Zaslavsky in conversation with Rita Erlich 
• 11:15 – 11:45am  Morning tea with cakes. Coffee cart sponsored by JAQ
• 11:45am – 12:45pm  Cooking Demonstration with Monday Morning Cooking Club founders Lisa Goldberg, Merelyn Frank Chalmers & Natanya Eskin (spiced potato latkes and salmon pastrami, with tastings)
• 11:45am – 12:45pm  Children’s Jewish holiday cooking workshop with a Yiddish vibe, hosted by Joan Nathan with Josh Reuben (Yiddish Australia) and Simone Sann (Sholem Aleichem College)
• 12:45 – 2:15pm  Complimentary lunch by All Things Equal, sponsored by JAQ. With live music by Adrian & Amy Banner featuring Karen Feldman
• 2:15 – 3:30pm  Cooking Demonstration with Joan Nathan and Monday Morning Cooking Club founder Lisa Goldberg (signature Jewish apple cakes and Joan’s Sephardic fish cakes)
• All day  Readings’ Festival Bookshop will stock a spectacular selection of books and feature book signings by Joan Nathan, Alice Zaslavsky and Monday Morning Cooking Club
