As a boy I hated Yiddish school and left early. I vowed to myself that I would someday become literate in my mother tongue. Later, I read a translation of “Family Mashber” and decided I would read it in Yiddish one day. It took till I was retired but now I lead a group that reads Yiddish literature. It’s never too late to start.
