Yiddish is “mamaloshn” – my first language. We only spoke Yiddish at home till I was about 5 years old. Once my older siblings went to school, English became the main language. I attended Sholem Aleichem kindergarten, then Sholem Aleichem Sunday school, where I became a teacher. I also taught Yiddish for one year at Sholem Aleichem College.

I studied VCE Yiddish, as a mature student, in 2017 and started my Yiddish Shmues with Dina at Kadimah in April 2017.

I only speak Yiddish to my 2 year old granddaughter (who lives in Melbourne), and I sing Yiddish songs to my other 2 grandchildren (who don’t live in Melbourne).
